Best part about fieldwork in Hawaii? Hitting the beach afterwards and driving home barefoot.

What’s Gowin Awn?!

Things are ridiculous as usual!  Busy work, new apartment, and tackling my finances like a quarterback out for a scholarship.

I’ve made significant effort to be frugally badass.  Would you like to join me?  Go check out http://www.mrmoneymustache.com/ and start at the beginning.

Additionally I’m considering a photography business.

Frugality plus photography lead me to buy a new cell phone on the $45 Unlimited Straight Talk Plan, a Nokia E-5.  It has unlimited everything, runs off the AT&T network, and most importantly, it has a 5MP camera.

The previous images are from that camera phone, alas, it lacks an autofocus, so macros (close-ups) are out of the question.  Obviously no award-winners there, but I just love taking pictures.

Ahem, however yesterday I walked into Sam’s Club straight into an impulse buy.

Ladies and Gentlemens, let me introduce you to Clara:

Isn’t she a beauty?  Named after a fire-breathing dragon/crow from Fables, she’s a Canon SX40 HS with a 12 MP resolution and a 35x optical zoom range.  Say it with me now, “Daaaaaaaayum.”:

This camera has a solid feel, ergonomic grip, intuitive button placement, smooth menu system, as well as some snazzy features like that articulated LCD screen you see in the first photo.  It is also highly capable in low-light conditions, and has excellent built-in image options such as fisheye, miniature, color accent effects, and high-definition 240 fps video recording.

My first camera was a Canon Powershot AS620 and I LOVED it.  My current Panasonic Lumix ZS7 is still a great camera, but honestly sucks in low-light conditions and has started to adopt some unfortunate glitches.

Clara here, oh Clara, she stole my heart.  She was priced at $370 (Amazon’s price is $400), plus I tossed in a $20 gift card to ice that cake and come away with a sweet deal.  Still pricey, but this is a whole lotta Canon for the charge.  Mom & Dad, thanks for that Christmas money!

You’ll be seeing a lot more of Clara and I reeeal soon.

Apologies for the funny captions, I’ve started uploading pics from my new cell phone via email and it seem the process needs a little tweaking.  There shouldn’t be any captions.
